I have been doing a lot of reading around today and been trying to make some decisions. I think i am happy with what the scales say but not with my pot belly. I am 133 lb and 5ft 9". Do i really need to try and lose more weight or is it down to exercise/toning now?
I have also been reading eat more to weigh less and so think i am going to increase my calorie goal. I worked out 15% lower than my tdee, is that right? Also i am starting 30 day shred on monday, do i eat this same number of calories on days i don't exercise?

If you include exercise in your tdee you eat the same number everyday. But 30 day shred isnt going to cut it, literally. You need heavy resistance training if you want to cut fat. 30DS is too much cardio so its going to be harder to cut fat. And cutting fat is what will improve the look of your belly.

Is it possible to do that sort of exercise at home? I can't afford a gym.

It depends on how much upper body strength you have a good start is 1kg - 2kg weights, this will help with a good all over body tone up, I've been using weights religiously for a month now and my hubby commented on my shape changing today, try doing the ab section every other day and you should notice a difference, and try to do the whole workout at lease 3 times a week, and believe it or not power walking will hep you too and the good thing about that is its free!!!!!!!

The 30 day shred *I think* is more for beginners (I've done it and it didn't really do much). It's not going to cut and shape you like I think you want. I'm a fan of INSANITY and P90X and have a lot of friends who have had great results. I've done just the warm-ups from INSANITY and they are harder and make me sore than the 30 day shred ever did. I'm going to do the full program starting July 2nd.

The starting point is different for everyone and for different exercises. So you can either get some adjustable dumbbells or a set of different dumbbells. A combo of cardio and weight lifting plus a slight calorie deficit would be best for cutting body fat.

Your body will tend to keep fat in certain places. As long as your burn more calories than you take in, you will burn stored fat to make up the difference between your intake and your BMR. But sometimes the areas where we see the need for improvement, are the last on our body's list to call up when it needs to burn fat.

heavy resistance training (weight lifting, body weight like pushups, pull-ups, dips etc.) + calorie deficit = fat loss (and an improved belly)

Thanks for all the advice. I am a beginner so i think insanity and p90x might be a bit much for me now but it is something i will be working towards. I will get the dumbells and do davina mcall and 30ds i think.
I have already started doing push ups, lunges, squats and crunches about 2 weeks ago.
I have worked out my calories as my tdee minus 15%.

Do you think this sounds like a good plan?

I'm a beginner and I've been doing running, 30DS, and 6-week-6-pack in combination with healthy diet and calorie tracking for a while now and it's working well for me. I've lost a bunch of weight and my BMI is down from "overweight" to "normal" now for what that's worth. Plus I can do real pushups instead of girl push ups now (last time I was able to do that was 10 years ago).

The Jillian Michaels DVDs have improved my abs and shoulder strength quite a bit. Just make sure you keep your abs tight when you do ab work. I'm not a trainer or anything but in every class I've taken in the past at the gym they say you can actually make your stomach look bigger if you don't suck it in while you work your abs (anyone who knows more about this than me please chime in). Good luck!

I'm 5'9 and about 130lbs at the mo. I started Shred about 6 weeks ago (2 injuries made it longer) along with a slight deficit and I have lost about 3 inches on my belly. It;s not completely flat but I am starting to see some upper abs (and I've had two c-sections).

I also do cardio at the gym about 6 times a week.

I wouldn't go go buying loads of DVDs - you have shred so go with that for now and move on to something after when you're ready.

I know lots of people on here say to reduce cardio and just lift heavy but whilst having a perfect body is obviously the end result - I want to have decent endurance also as currently my fitness is pretty crap. Would love to be able to run 10k and still have abs!

I have just altered my cals to 1800 every day. I was struggling with having different amounts everyday depending on how much I exercised so have found this easier and less likely to have cravings at the end of the day.

It's not likely that what someone else does will get the exact results for you, so best to try and see how you get on and see where you think you need to give more effort.

Feel free to add me since we're similar stats :)

If you want something a little less intense than p90x and insanity, i highly suggest chalean extreme. Its 35-45 minutes and incorporates resistance training and HIIT. And if you need weights get the deluxe package. It comes with bands and a ball. In two rounds i went from 18% body fat to 12%.

I did up my calories but then I sort of forgot that I shouln't have cheat days after upping cals. Have put on 5 pounds so I'm working on losing that again. I also want to sort out my thighs! I'm gunna start new rules of lifting for women next week. I'm 5'7 and 128, but was 123 a while back. I don't mind about the numbers so much as what I look like!

Hope you enjoy 30ds, I loved it! (but it didn't do much for me for my belly and thighs, though I did feel firmer. People on here have said its cos I didn't have much to lose and that lifting heavier would be better for me - hence starting new rules)
