I try to exercise everyday. I do 30 crunches everyday and on top of that I'll try and do 80 jumping jacks or 25 squats or ride the bike, something. Yesterday I did everything I could to keep active. I woke up at 3pm and worked out until 9pm. I did take breaks. I also ate dinner at 7pm and drank a protein shake at 8:30 so my body wouldn't freak out over low calorie intake. I tired myself out and fell asleep when I hit the pillow. I weighed in today and I gained 3 1/2 lbs. I am so confused as to how I gained weight. I have no idea if it's muscle or fat. Please help.

Neither muscle or fat. Weight fluctuates daily and quite possibly a case of water retention. Do you work nights causing you to wake up at 3 pm? For myself when I'm working nights I always tend to carry more water weight for some reason.

    It's neither, it's water.

    Neither muscle nor fat.

There's no possible way you could have gained 3.5 lbs of muscle overnight (if you could, you could market it and sell it for A LOT OF MONEY), and unless you ate more than 10000 extra calories it's not fat either. Probably water retention from extra exercise.

Weighing yourself every day is bad for this reason. Don't look to see results tomorrow from today's work.

I don't have a job. Should I drink more water?

Your muscles actually need to retain water after a workout. It isn't something you want to "cure".

You worked out for 6 hours?

Have you considered trying a cleanse?

Why so much in one day? It is very likely simple water and waste retention. Drink plenty of fluids and let nature take its course. You will be fine.

I've thought about it. I do have a Dukan Diet book around here somewhere, but I don't think that counts.

I used to workout twice a day and it would be hard for me to lose weight, but someone actually told me that when I exercise and become sore the muscles tend to hold on to the water and that obviously make you weigh more. Dont worry you will lose the weight.

    Best of luck!!!
