so im starting the atkins diet and im in the induction phase but im hearing conflicting stories about what to do. my mother and her boyfriend are doing it [very sucessfully] by just sticking to >20carbs/no sugar/alcohol/etc, but online, im reading that you need to breakdown what youre eating [ie: no more than Xoz of a certain food]. has anyone done this with success and how did you you do it. rather, how strict were you? the measuring every type of food just seems extreme on top of extreme to me...

If you're starting the Atkins diet then surely you are following a book or the web site http:/www.atkins.com/program/ otherwise you are just following your own low carb plan.

Controlling your carbs while eating sensible portions of protein foods like meat and a good quantity of low carb green vegetables is the essence of it. You may need to weigh things to get your eye in for sensible portion sizes, as it isn't an invitation to eat as much meat as you can force down your neck while expecting to lose weight.

If they are JUST keeping it under 20 and not eating the "right" 20, then they are not doing Atkins. Dr. Atkins wrote entire books on his plan, and I would highly suggest you read one to clear it all up. And I promise it will make sense! My go-to is Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution.

He had a few specific rules to limit products that might hinder your weight loss, like try to keep your cheese intake under 3 oz per day, and heavy cream to 3 tbsp per day. I assume that's what you were referring to. After you've done this for two weeks, it gets easier. And after a few months, you can do it in your sleep! This is how we change our eating habits for a lifetime.

It is so worth it, I promise you!!
