Where do i begin???? Ive had 2 children in 21 months. With my first pregnancy ( my daughter) i gained a WHOPPING 70 LBS!! Then on my daughters first birthday , i conceived my son. 9 joyful months later i had a 7lb 6 oz beutiful baby boy :) Well, along with a beautiful child i also got another 30 pounds of baby weight. I. feel. disgusting. Thats 100 pounds i gained in 2 years....
So, my sister in law told me about this website and here i am, attempting to lose weight.
My question is , Where do i start? Do i just give up the junk and go cold turkey healthy eating? Do you change a little by little? WHAT DO I DO? lol I like to do zumba on my xbox... but thats about all the excercise i get. ( other then running around the floor with my 2 year old... and working as a hair dresser, which im on my feet about 8 hours a day.)
What did you do to start losing weight?????

I just had my 4th child 8 months ago, and I still look about.... 6 months pregnant lol ...
For everyone it is different. I guess the main part of this site is LOGGING EVERYTHING you eat. Once you see how much you actually consume, it will help you make better choices. Then from there you can move on to healthier eating (if thats what you choose to do)
You also make friends who support you and you support them. That helps too.
Since starting the site, all of my eating habits have changed. And I am on a mission to do more exercise, eat better foods (preferably a clean lifestyle) and lose weight. But tonight its the weekend so I will prob go slightly over my cals and drink some vodka haha :drinker:
It's actually quite fun and as addicting as Facebook... I'm on this site many times a day lol ....

Well, first off, congrats on two beautiful, healthy children! My two little girls are 9 days shy of being 18 months apart, and it's a handful. Think of this as a lifestyle change. If you're not willing to never eat something again, then you should learn to fit it in while you're losing weight. While the majority of my diet is fairly good, I still eat pop, chocolate, candy and chips, just in measured portions. If you're nursing, add in the extra calories for breastfeeding, and eat them - you can search the food database for breastfeeding and select the option that best suits your situation. I also find it handy to pre-portion out food for the day, as it allows me to just grab something and know how much it is.

hello and welcome. what a great decision you have made for yourself. it is one of the best ones you've made.

    so, where do u start:

1- find friends on here. feel free to add me if you like

2- start by walking 20 mins a day and doing another 20 mins or so of zumba & xbox. do what you like for 20 mins then increase time every week or so. know how long you have to give to a workout on a daily basis. me personally, w/my 2 kids i can only give 1 hr a day.

3 - swap soda for water or ice tea (no juices they are calories)

4- change 1 meal at a time for a few weeks at a time. it doesn't matter what meal. find foods u like that have more protein & fiber in them. also, sine you work - add healthy snacks to your day as well (nuts, almonds are great, protein bars etc).

as for junk food - eat the serving size. also, enter your meals ahead of time so u can allot for the "junk food" until u can give it up and not crave it. if you totally get rid of it cold turkey, u will crave it - blow ur diet for the day & then feel even more discourage. if you give yourself the freedom to have a serving of the junk foods & make it part of your calorie count, u will start to see that u may not want it anymore. (hope this makes sense).

6 - log everyday - even if u are sick.

7 - think about things this way.....u're on The Biggest Loser challenge using Weight Watchers for free (mfp) .....intense workouts / watch what u eat & support / mfp provides the accountability weight watchers does

what i did to start losing my baby weight was:

started riding my exercise bike for 10-20 mins a day 2x-3x's a time.

did a pilates video. my goal was to get @ 30 mins exercise in a day for a few weeks.

i also started looking for friends & logging my foods and not caring about what i was eating so that i could see what my intake really looked liked. then, as i got more familiar w/the website and saw the foods i was eating i started making better choices (crunchy fruit instead of cookies or chips).

once my exercise increased to @ 1hr a day, i wanted more to my workout. i then did the Jillian Michaels 30-day shred. by the time i got to this point, i had been working out for @ 30+ days. w/in the 1st 30 days, i dropped 5+lbs.... felt real good and the changes i was making were paying off. i noticed a real difference in my body & energy level during those 30 days as well.

hope all this helps you out. best wishes on your journey.
  • Feel free to add me if you like. I agree a lot with rcolours7. The best thing I ever did
was cut out sodas. I still have a hard time some with the tea. I went cold turkey
vegetarian, but that was by my choices... and I never really liked much meat either
way. Don't go crazy on junk... eat serving size... but try to slowly cut yourself out of
    them over time.

Congrats on your new little one! I started by logging all of my food and seeing where I was getting the extra calories (late night snacking after the kids went to bed). I have been making healthier choices and saw my calories drop right away. I am starting with changing my diet and then once I have that under control I will start with exercises. Find what works for you and go from there. Good luck in your weight loss journey and feel free to add me as a friend!

Welcome to MFP. You will find a lot of very supportive people on here, lots of good ideas, recipes, etc.

There are "groups" on MFP (look at the tabs above) & the one that I feel is very useful esp. for women is called "Eat More to Weigh Less." It's a very active discussion group, lots of support, & links to other Internet sites. I met with a Registered Dietician - first thing she did was calculate my BMR. Instead, you can do that easily on MFP. Go to the "Tools" tab. There's a link on the "Tools" page that will help you easily calculate your BMR. That gives you a "base" from which to start , & specific knowledge about how many calories you should eat per day. Don't eat less than your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate)....crazy low calorie diets are just not healthy for so many reasons.

Several other things I've found helpful. Planning has been the key for me. I eat 3 meals & 2-3 snacks/day depending on my exercise for the day. I also have added protein shakes (I make mine with milk in a blender) They're a great way to help me get my protein in for the day. If you're like most women, carbs are our "go to" food & we don't eat enough protein. If you plan ahead, you can bring food & snacks to work, it helps you avoid those "impulse" meals or snacks also. I actually freeze protein shakes & they thaw during the day - kind of like eating "icecream."

Documenting what you eat is pretty eye-opening for most of us. As others have said, substitute healthy choices for junk food, etc.
People post recipes on MFP also which is a great help.

I don't buy any chips, cookies, soda, etc. I know if I have it in my house I'd probably eat it. If it's not there I can't eat it.

Lastly, I've found that by eating healthier, eating more protein, and yes, in my case, eating more calories has kept me from craving carbs like I did before.

    Best wishes!
