Anyone doing Sugar Busters or eliminating sugar from diet?

Hello MFP,

For the past 3 weeks I have been consciously eliminating sugar (except for fruits...natural sugar is fine) from my diet, as well as grains. I have noticed that I have slimmed down enough that my clothes are fitting ALOT better! I didn't weigh myself before starting but I am thinking I will continue doing this for the rest of this month, weigh myself on July 1st and keep a record of weight loss for the next couple of months.

Has anyone been cutting sugar from their diet? If so, what have been some of the benefits you have seen? (weight loss, energy, etc.)

P.S. I read Sugar Busters and it motivated me to try this way of eating and it has been great! I usually don't do well with structured diets but I like this eating plan.

    I haven't heard of Sugar Busters, but its just logical to eliminate sugars and most grains from your diet. I'm having tremendous success doing this. I have lost 20 lbs by following MFP's 1200 cals a day and only eating natural sugars from fruits. I run into trouble with bread and cereal, them and sugary foods and beverages are the reason behind my gain. I eliminated those from my diet and eat natural carbs and sugar and I feel great ^_^

    I lost 60 pounds averaging 80-100 grams of sugar a day. It's really all a matter of calories.

    And as far as the human body is concerned, fruit sugar is IDENTICAL to processed sugar.

    I started a month long no white carbs/no refined sugar program for a month...with one day set aside for anything. I did it once before and it got me off the junk and eating more healthy. I only have one more day and then I can start adding back in some whole grains in moderation. The cravings are gone. I feel good. I will continue to keep to a low carb/high protein diet and limit the starchy carbs and sugar. I will allow myself the occasional treat when I can fit it into my diet.

    The difference this time is that I know that I cant go back to eating the way I used to. This is a life change and now that I have diabetes it has become a necessity.

    It may be identical, but the point of eating it naturally is that the fructose is usually accompanied by the fiber within the fruit, so the amount of time to digest the sugar takes longer. And when you spread out sugar over time, less is transferred into fat cells.

    Cangi, just be careful not to drink too much pasteurized fruit juice, as you are missing out on beneficial enzymes, as well as the fiber I just spoke of.

    I haven't completely taken sugar out of my diet, but I have stopped buying sugar, like C&H Cane Sugar in the bag. I do not put sugar in my coffee in the morning and I do not add it to any of my drinks or foods throughout the day, and if I do, it is Raw sugar, but that is rare. A while ago, for my nutrition class in culinary school I tried out this Vegan Diet, I didn't eat anything that came from an animal or involved an animal whatsoever. It was difficult, very difficult. But I did it for a month and I had amazing results.On a Vegan diet, you do not eat sugar because they grind up the sugar with bones, supposedly. So I banned anything with sugar from my diet. I think for that month I felt the best that I had ever felt in years. I know veganism is more like a lifestyle, but it is great to follow if you just want to lose weight. As a matter of fact, I think I might do it again, that will jump start my weight loss very nicely. Oh, and P.S.- I stopped that Vegan diet because it was kinda expensive and because I just missed meat so much, but it wasn't worth the weight gain.
