my weight went down 4.2 pounds however according to the scale body fat percent went up 22.2%. chest measurements stayed the same, waist went up 2 inches and hips went down 1/2 an inch. how is this right?

Perhaps what you lost was muscle?

looking at your diary, you don't eat nearly enough at all. way too many calories left over. so it very well could be muscle loss which would explain the higher BF %.

My first thought is mechanical error. Once my scale told me I weigh 130.7, when I very obviously did not. I moved the scale, it recalibrated itself, and then weighed true.

    Grab your fat!

If its squishy it could be water weight.

The scale sends a currewnt through your body and cant differentiate between water and fat in the cell.
For instance, im at 12% body fat but after have a carb up day i'll register at 16%.
    Those scale suck BTW.
    Buy calipers.

ok so i just used calipers and it says 37% body fat. which is 10 % less than last sunday which would make more sense with losing some weight. thanks guys.

I'm not sure a 10% difference is possible in that short a time frame.

I'm guessing water and inaccurate caliper measurement, either the initial one or the current one.
