    No. You never know what may happen in the future. Professionally it is not good to burn your bridges.

    Only every job ever until this one. They were really crap jobs and I hated them.

    Yes, told the guy he was an *kitten* and I would not let him treat me like ****! And out I walked!

    I have never regretted it and would do it again if the situation arose!

    I once worked a telemarketing job for several months after having ankle surgery (I needed a job that didn't require me to stand or walk). It was horrible (seriously people, be nice to telemarketers). One day, I was sitting there and just started crying because I hated the job that much. So at the end of my shift, I hobbled over to the manager on my crutches and said, "Well, I put in my two weeks' notice two weeks ago, so thanks for everything and I'll see you around sometime!" They weren't the most on-the-ball people and completely bought it.

    Working in the HR field I find it extremely rude but lots of people do it. The worst is when they just stop showing up and don't even call. You are then left to wonder if some tragic accident happened or if the person is just an a-hole!

    Yes. When I was a teenager I did housekeeping for a local hotel during the summer.. It didn't last long! I wanted to be at the lake. One day, my friend and I were cleaning a room that left beer as a tip... We took it and headed for the lake. Never went back to work.

    Yep. It started as a job I got in high school and I worked there through part of college, work my way up and all that.

    Management was awful. And apparently I missed the memo that in order to keep your hours, or get more hours, you had to be blowing the manager.

    Which is what I'm assuming the girl that I trained did in order to take my hours from me that she voluntarily gave up (it was never an option to randomly take back the hours you gave up. Until she got into our company).

    I quit on the spot and told my manager to find someone else thats willing to perform assistant manager duties for ****ty pay.

    Now I work in a completely different field that has awesome management.

    Sure, once somebody outlives their usefulness, I cut them away like fat on a pork chop.
    I never gave notice, because I did not want to give them the chance to take control of the situation.
    I enjoy the upper hand.

    To the girl who worked in HR...In NJ they have "no call, no show" and if they do that for 3 days it's legally a "quit" and they can't collect unenjoyment. I quit my first job at Carvel w/o notice (I was 14) ...I worked one night and came home in tears lol. I know better than to do that these days...it will def somehow come back to bite you in the *kitten*. Suck it up and give at least a week and fulfill that commitment, esp in case, God forbid for some reason yet unseen, you have to collect unemployment within the next 18 months...

    Yes. I was working retail in my college town, 2 hours away from my home. I was told by my boss that since I lived so far away and everyone else was local, I could have the day after Thanksgiving off. She called me the morning of Thanksgiving and told me that I had to work the next morning to open the store. I said no, because I had just gotten home the evening before and had plans with my family, reminding her that she'd told me I could have that day off. She insisted, and I quit. Had this been the first time I'd had issues with this manager, I would have sucked it up, but it was part of an ongoing frustration and lack of respect for me when I continually went above and beyond for that job.

    That's the only time. I haven't had to quit any other job on bad terms. Every other time I've left a job, it was due to moving.

    Many years ago, I made the mistake of trying a job in a Krispy Kreme. One day and I was a mess...no training, no help, no nothing. Longest 8 hours of my life. The next day I quit with no regrets.

    I can say I have not, but I have had friends that have and now wish they hadn't as they cant get back in. Mind the bridges you burn.

    It kinda sucks that most of the entry level early-in-your-career jobs tend to be menial and the company can let you go at any time usually for no reason or for almost any reason whatsoever. And those types of jobs don't give two weeks severance pay. Yet if you quit one of those jobs they want two weeks notice. Most of the time when an employee gives notice its the best business practice to cut them loose that day.

    For my own experience, I've never quit a job without notice, and the one company that wanted to phase me out gave me 30 days notice plus hired me as a consultant when the 30 days were up.

    Yup. I was in college. Got a better job and just never showed up again at my retail gig. Not my proudest moment, but I guess lots of us are inconsiderate idiots when we're 19 ... Just don't tell my kids I said that!!

    I did once, only because my boss was starting to scare me. I was hired to be his bookkeeper, ended up being his PA mostly.

    He would send me out to buy his wife presents, his lunch for him and his 10 friends he invites over and I would then have to clean up the mess. One day they had vomited in a wastebin, which was full of Mac D boxes and leftover food, there were empty bottles of whisky everywhere and office smelt rotten. I felt really small that day...

    When he would speak to one of his clients and said client would disagree with him, my boss would throw the phone accross the office effectively breaking it...thus leading to me buying another one for the git.

    Finally his wife would come round some days and they would have full blown domestics and I once saw him shove her into a wall, she then proceeded to hit him with the stapler (no joke)..I closed the door quietly and pretended to do some filing. Funny thing was she came to my office after and started apologising for his behaviour and that I should go get them lunch.

    After 4 months of being there I went in early, boxed up my things and left my resignation on his desk...he then rang my home, spoke to my husband(fiancee at the time) and accused me of stealing postal stamps and that he'd call the police...they were in my desk in the drawers...blind bat. Next day he tried to lure me to see him saying that he wanted to give me a present for my hardwork. Proper loony toons this guy

    In hindsight I should have reported him, but I was only 19 and had never seen anyone like him before in my working life. It really shocked me. I just wanted to erase him from my life. I wish I had reported him... *facedesk*

    It was hard trying to get another job and having to explain why I left, how can you say my ex boss is a maniac nicely? So ended up in temporary roles for a month until someone took a chance on me :)

    NOW I can't afford to leave without notice, however I don't put up with that kind of behaviour anymore...clean up your own vomit, I count figures, not chunks of regurgitated food!

    Edited to say: This was in my late teens early 20's...I have been at my current job almost 8 years..I am much more stable now :tongue:

    Yes, on my first day I thought omg I don't want to work here. I went to lunch...then decided I was going home and never went back lol!!

    I left my job to have a baby with notice and they were holding a job for me when i chose to come back. I found a different job and never came back or told them, but it wasnt like I was on the schedule or had a start date. One of my friends that works there told me how the GM was annoyed, so I dont know.
