Whole can of beans everyday? 1/2 to whole squash?

Is it okay to eat a whole can of beans everyday? I vary the type (black, roman, pinto, kidney, lentil, garbanzo, etc.) and I don't have digestive issues. Eating a whole can of beans is what helps fill me up and keep me satisfied (along with a whole lot of kabocha squash - like 1/2 to a whole squash a day). I really enjoy these foods and I know that, in general, they're healthy foods - but is this too much?

I don't see a problem with it. Beans have a ton of fiber, potassium and protein along with very little fat. And like you said, they are very filling. I eat beans by the truckload for these very reasons.

I eat about 2-3 cups of broccoli most days with my lunch... same concept, it fills me up. My co-workers are all horrified by the concept and say they'd have terrible stomach issues and gas if they ate that much. Doesn't bother me.

I don't think the beans are an issue as long as you're getting lots of veggies, fruits and grains too. Any diet that's too much of one thing can be unhealthy b/c you're not getting all the macro-nutrients, or vitamins and minerals, that you need.

And, hey... you've inspired me to add beans as filler too! Wonder what they'll say when I show up with beans AND broccoli?

I try to limit anything from a can. So I cook up my own beans.

Yellow and green split peas are good, too.

the only thing I would watch is your sodium count, some canned beans tend to have a lot of salt added. Make sure you rinse the beans before eating and you should be good :)

anyway beans & squash are both good for you, both are nutrient rich and as long as thats not ALL you're eating I'd say you're fine.

you probably wont understand what they have to say cause they'll be wearing clothespins on their noses as a precaution!!!

The only issue is like the above poster said--you need to make sure you're varying your diet enough. And with that much fiber drink a lot of water otherwise it can be problematic. But mostly, you're fine!

Oh, definitely not all that I eat - I eat a lot of different veggies, fruits, some healthy fats, some treats, grains, etc. But they're just the things that I eat the most of and that satisfy me the most. I do rinse the salt off the beans, drink water, and (oddly, I guess) beans don't make me gassy!

I actually eat a whole can of black beans every morning for breakfast. Rinse them, add a tiny bit of olive oil and some spices, and heat them in the microwave.

For me they are actually a close to perfect breakfast. Hot and filling, nutrient dense, with protein and fiber, and digest slowly so my blood sugar doesn't spike. I am actually glad I started doing this most days, because I am not a ravenous beast the rest of the day.

I do eat a large variety of foods throughout the rest of the day, too though. So I am not worried about missing any nutrients.
