I saw this story on the CBC and I don't really know what to make of it? Would you go to a gym that only allows overweight women to join?

I read about this a few days ago, and it turns out the thing is a big non-story.

    Reading

    http://www.reddit.com/r/loseit/comments/vbveo/canadian_gym_bans_skinny_women_would_you_feel/c535w05

"If you look at the web site of The Body Exchange (the only place mentioned in the article that is strictly plus size only), it's clear it's not really a "gym." It's a "fit camp" program that apparently meets in locations like elementary schools (look at the locations page). This is not like a gym you go to every day after work, but a series of classes designed with plus size people in mind. This kind of sheds a different light on the whole thing -- it's not at all like a place like 24 Hour or Bally's or whatever deciding to ban skinny people"

Things like this really help women jump start their weight loss. They feel more confident working out with other plus size people rather that skinny fit people if that makes since. If a gym started out as a normal gym then "banned skinny people' I say thats crap, but I think its great they have places for plus size people to go if they don't want to go to a regular gym

I worry about the CBC. It seems like their reporting has gone down hill since the cuts. The story made me think that it would not be fair to leave anyone out based on size but after reading almostatgoalw post it does seem to be another non started f rom the CBC.
  • Whether it was the basis of curves or not is irrelevant because curves allows everyone- regardless of their size. Im on the small side of a healthy weight and I have been there several times before. Catering to a group is great, but banning a group of society, based on their size, is terrible. How would you feel if you are fat and a group said no fat people allowed? That would hurt wouldnt it? Big people arent the only ones that can be discriminated against you know. What if a skinny chick wanted to get in shape with her overweight mother, sister, or friend. Her overweight friend finds this club and they go all excited and ready to change their lives and than some overweight person says, uh no, you cant come here, you are too small....?
