I would like to get a heart rate monitor but have no idea what to look for in one. I would like a better accounting of calories burned while exercising. Do they all have a chest strap to wear? Can i wear them in the pool for aquatics? Do i have to order it online? or can i get one at a sporting goods store?
Thanks for any info!

most arent waterproof - those that are are $$$$$$$$
Yes you want a chest strap - most accurate - the finger touch ones are more prone to variance and do not continually monitor. A chest strap keeps on monitoring and providing HR data to the wrist watch unit.
This lets you make sure you remain in the HR zone you want to be in.
It also is what keeps your calorie burn tracked accurately.
I have a Polat FT7 and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. got it from http://www.heartratemonitorsusa.com/ because they had best price and reputation. Got it quickly. But you can get them most sporting good stores - even Target sells the Polar models.
Get an extra chest strap too because they get funky with sweat and need to dry. They are cheap.
Did I mention i LOVE my Polar FT7?? hahah0 -
Thanks ... i will go check it out.0
