Slim-Fast ROCKS for Men!

Hi,
I am a male who in January 2012 weight 285 pounds at 5' 8".
After getting my doctor's approval to start Slim-Fast per
manufacturer instructions, I am now down to 249 after 6
months.
A few "tweaks" were necessary however:
It seems Slim-Fast is mostly marketed toward a female
audience. Men typically need more calories than women,
all other factors being equal, therefore:
1) I use 12 ounces 1% milk, rather than 8 ounces skim,
in combination with the Chocolate Royale formula.
I find that this completely satiates for four hours
straight for each drink. It completely kills dead
my appetite for baked sweets or candies of any kind.
Each drink is therefore 250 calories rather than 200.
2) Instead of a female calorie target of 1000 to 1200
per day, I use 1200 to 1350.
Therefore, the amount of what I call "real calories",
that is, calories from real food, is thus 1200 - 2 (500) = 800.
3) Intelligently done, an 800 calorie lunch or dinner can
be quite satiating. 5 to 6 ounces of lean meat or
chicken, along with a large salad with 1/3 of a cup of
cheese and balsamic vinegar, with steam veggies,
is for me as good as it gets.
4) Watch out for starches! They deliver too many calories
for the amount of food value and fiber one can obtain
from them. 1 single cup of any kind of pasta, rice, or
corn is approximately 200 calories give or take 10 percent.
5) As recommended by manufacturer, I have a large piece
of fruit whenever I feel hungry, to further kill cravings.
I don't recommend the snack bars, they are simply
candy by another name, and too cloying anyway.
Apple, pear, banana, mango, or even watermelon are
all suitable.
6) If I am feeling a craving for extra protein, I will instead
of the piece of fruit have one or two slices of chicken
or turkey lunchmeat, totalling approximately 50-60
calories.
7) In either case of 5 or 6, I don't count calories from
these snacks toward my 800, I will explain in 8) why.
8) I'll drink water, or at the very worst if I need an energy
boost, water laced with juice at 3 parts water to 1 part
juice.
9) I do RACEWALKING three to four times per week,
evenings when it is coolest. It's like walking but
you push the pace to the limit! As a stay at home
dad, I also do cleaning, cooking, and laundry,
which helps burns some more.
I am now up to 3 miles round trip each time, and it
takes me an hour. Each time at my present weight
level burns at least 700 calories, which is nearly as
much as my nominal intake range of 1200 - 1350.
10) I have been weighing in twice a month at my doctors
office and I am losing 6 to 8 pounds per month!!!!
My wife thinks I am looking VERY attractive, and
everyone else is amazed at the difference.
Comments:
a) Maximize fiber. Fruits and vegetables are best,
Meats (chicken, beef or pork trimmed of fat before
cooking) are okay, Starches least effective.
b) Because Slim-Fast now accounts for 2/3 of your
calories, the value of fiber is even more important.
c) Notwithstanding the value of fiber and other
people's opinions, it really doesn't matter where
you get your calories from. The body transforms
extra calories into fat, and it doesn't care whether
that is from meat, starch, sugar, vegetable or fruit.
I disagree greatly with the naturists who believe
that this diet is an unholy thing that promotes
unnatural eating patterns.
In my opinion, people get fat because they CANNOT
metabolize a normal diet properly. Overweight
people are intrinsically incapable of normal eating
patterns for that reason.
I am quite willing to stay on this diet for life. This
stuff is irresistable and I'd rather be on liquid lembas
for the rest of my life than be miserable trying to
do what is politically correct.

Congratulations on your success!
Be careful with Slim Fast, however. It contains soy, which can effect hormones. A friend of mine was doing slim fast, and he and his wife were having trouble trying to conceive. They did a sperm count for him and his sperm were really dramatically low. The doctor told him to quit the Slim Fast, and a month later when they tested him again, his counts were back to normal.0 -
Hi just come across this post as I'm thinking of doing the slim fast meal supplement shakes, with adding the extra liquid do you also add more scoops of powder ?0

Slimfast is just a calorie controlled program. And like ANY program, if you're in control of your calories, you'll lose/gain/maintain weight.
Liquid diets have the highest weight regain statistics due to the issue of NOT addressing how to eat correctly.
And people don't get fat because they can't metabolize food in their diet. They get fat because they over consume calories. Obviously they are metabolizing those calories if they are being converted for storage.

@andrewgoerd896 this post was from 2012 and it loos like the original 2 posters are inactive. I'd suggest starting a new thread. Although this one has probably been bumped enough that maybe someone will get you an answer.0 -
Lol, I got zombied. Oh well. I'd love to see what the OP is up to now. Wouldn't be surprise in the least if he gained all the weight back and more.
