Hypothyroidism

I was wondering if anyone else out there has or had hypothyroidism and if you have any advice on losing weight or just some good information. I was diagnosed with it last year, and in the ending of June this year my Dr. took me off my synthyroid to see if my thyroid could function. Well we found out that it couldn't and in the process I gained all the weight I lost while I was on synthyroid. Synthyroid is my medication. Well I have been back on my meds since mid-month of Aug. I am just really fustrated and tired of being overweight. I was overweight in highschool but as soon as I hit 19 I became a vegetarian and got really serious about working out and has stayed at 125 for the last 5 years until last year. So it is really upsetting to me that I am 155 pounds right now. Please if you have any ideas or advice let me know! :frown:

I also have the same thing and have been on meds for years. All you can do is start from now. The weight is there, so now begins your journey to get it off. This program is wonderful and really works. I just advise you to log in everything BEFORE you eat to keep within your cal limits. Good luck. I know you can do it.0

The only thing I have found to work for me is caloric-limiting. I've battled with thyroid issues my entire life and even on medication wasn't having any luck. Then I read about something called The Thyroid Diet where you pretty much (summary version) find the total number of calories your body can take before it starts gaining, and go from there. For me, I have to eat less than 980 calories a day to lose. Because I strength train, I try and keep the majority of those calories towards protein (challenging because I'm an Italian Vegetarian, a carb magnet, lol). Its tough, but it works.
You just have to find what works for you. When it comes to weight loss, there aren't real miracles, just hard work.0 -
Thank you so much for your response. I too am a vegetarian and italian food is my weakness and is the majority of what I eat. I have been doing good though on this website so far. And did you say you eat less than 980 cals? That works?0

For me it does - I use high protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and save a good portion of my calories for dinner. The other night I was actual able to have fettuccine alfredo. What works FOR ME - and I stress the for me part because everybody is different - is I don't prevent myself from having something, I just reallocate the calories around for the day. If I go out to lunch with friends, I have steamed broccoli for dinner, things like that. If I've already used my calories for that day, I won't indulge in something else until the next day when I have the calories available. I've used plans like Medifast before that are super high protein and low calorie.
I use dill pickle spears for munchie snacks, as they only have 5 calories, and i don't know if its the vinegar or what but they take away the 'hungry' feeling.
I phased down to 980. Did a 1200 calorie plan for a couple of weeks, then 1000, then down to the 980 this time. Its worked so far, and helped me not go through the OMG I'm starving phase in the beginning so much, *laugh*
980 calories works for me, however it may be too low for you - everybody's caloric limits are different. I am sedentary a lot of the day, so thats why my limit is lower. Its all about whats finding right for you. :flowerforyou:0
