I was thinking about getting the Polar FT7 HRM but had one question for you all. I was wondering if there is anything that I can buy for this or another device so that I can track my distance running or biking. I normally run on a treadmill but would like to start running outside. I do not own a smart phone so I do not have access to any of the apps. Anything will help. Thanks.

The polar won't track distance. There are garmin units with GPS that can.

one word of warning with biking and an FT7

They are super susceptible to static electricity. That means riding a bike, wearing exercise clothes (tech fabric, cycling jersey) can cause erratic readings from the FT7. --Yes that's right, the FT7 isn't fully compatible with exercise clothing.... Usually not an issue unless the shirt is really flapping (as happens in cycling)

I have a Garmin 705 and it ttracks HR and distance along with a lot more. I take it walking and cycling, plotting the route that I want to use first and then it is a god check that I am still on track.

You can purchase something for distance with it, its called a foot pod or something similar. Loops on your shoe lace I believe. I love my polar FT60 x

Just get a Garmin with GPS then, and benefit from even better calorie burn estimates, and incredible training options and logging abilities compared to Polar.

Just make sure to get a Garmin with Firstbeat technology.

And for some great usage reviews.
