What are good running stores?

So, I'm starting the C25K plan and I want to get some good running shoes. Everyone says "good to a good running store and get fitted." Well, I went to the mall today, and the athletic shoe stores all had indifferent employees who didn't seem eager to help. Are there some chain stores that people have had good experiences with?
Or, does anyone know of a good way to find a good shoe online? From a "Runner's World" web site, I've already determined that I've got an average arch, am an under-pronater, and strike the ground mid-sole. Now all I need is to find an appropriate shoe!
Also, it's been awhile since I bought athletic shoes... is everyone wearing neon-colored shoes now??! I think they're so ugly, but that's what all the stores seemed to have...
Edit: oops, this should have been under "fitness," not "food." But I don't see a way to delete. Oh well.

****s sporting goods seems pretty good, along with MC sporting goods. And yes bright shoes are the "in" thing. The first store in this reply is another name for Richard. MFP put symbols in for letters. lol0

Find a pro running store, one that sells running shoes, and not fashion trainers. Get your gait Analysed, buy the shoes they recommend having tried on at least four pairs, and run even for a minute or two on the treadmill (if the shops does not have a treadmill go shop somewhere else). In the UK we are lucky as most decent running shoe shops now have gait analyse and treadmills.
In the UK you’d expect to pay £80 for a decent pair of running shoes. And them to last 500 miles. Buy a current shoe or at a push last year’s model.
When I ran a regularly I bought one new pair every year from my favourite running shop and the same pair online. That way I keep my local shop open, and get a bargain.
As for the brightness of shoes, that wears off after a proper run or two.0 -
I think since I've not been successful thus far in finding a good store in my particular town, self-help might be the best bet; I actually found a great site that describes the key things you need to know about your feet and then has links to Zappos to find the right kind of shoes!

Fleet Feet! They make you run up the block to evaluate your shoe and movement before they sell you a pair!0

Gait analysis. Go to a pro store. One where they only sell running shoes and not just one kind.0
