I started the 30DS today and I only made it halfway through. I want to complete it tomorrow, but I'm not sure how, exactly. I think I AM going to finish the latter half of the work out later in the day, but how can I push myself to complete the full 27 minutes tomorrow, pain, sweat, tears and all?

I just recently got a heart rate monitor, so now when I do my DVD workouts I try to set & reach a "Calories burned goal"...and if I reach that, then I see if I can burn 100 more.

Of course, you can just remind yourself that "It's only __ Minutes left!" or "I want to look good in my _(insert clothing article here)_" (For me, it's my wedding dress! )

Believe in yourself, you CAN do it and you WILL do it. If you have to take a break, take a break.

You have to remember why you're doing it in the first place and picture you at your goal - you will find the strength (physical & emotional) and determination to finish it if you always keep in mind why you're doing it in the first place!

Don't give up or get disheartened just know that the next time it will be easier and you'll last for longer

I don't know about videos but, when I work out at the gym, music motivates me.

First and foremost make sure that your doctor approves any exercise. You don't want to try to exceed what your heart isn't capable of.
That said, go at a pace you can handle. Too many people try to keep up with the "fit" ones and will ultimately fail when they first try out home videos.

It's just like learning how to do pull ups and push ups. Do what you can and everything motified, then next time do a little more, then a little more.
Don't push to the point you hurt yourself. Keep working hard, you've got the drive.

Music does motivate me at the gym. I've never used a work out DVD before so it's a bit different. I think I'm am going to picture my goals I want to accomplish out of this. I do know what I want. I want to be a size 8/9. I'm a size 15/16 I believe.

MUSIC! No music = S*** workout for me.

And lying to yourself helps. For example, If you I have 30 minutes of jogging to do. I break it down into 3 X ten minute sets. Than I tell myself "10 min...I can do that. No problem, thats like only 2 X 5 minutes. EASY."
Once I've down one set I find it so much easier to just keep going without even needing to stop. Point of the story TRICK YOURSELF ;)

When I first started using DVDs at home, I would modify the moves and/or pause the DVD and take a 1 min break. I wore a stopwatch and after 1 minute, I would start it again. I would go as long as I could, and pause it again if I needed to do so. The first few days I took a lot longer then the normal time to finish it... but I finished it. Within a week or two I could do the video without taking a break, and it wasn't too long that I didn't need to modify the moves. Give yourself a break and do your best. It's okay to take a small break or get a drink of water. You can do it!

When I first started, I had to modify many moves, do all the exercises but do less reps and just kept moving for the full 27 minutes. I did all the minutes but I had to build up with the actual moves.

Oh, and like Jullian says, pause for 5 deep breaths if you need it. Ha! Sometimes I paused for 1-2 minutes to catch my breath and drink some water.

The trick is to do what you can and keep going.

Goodness I love this website. Thank you all so much!
  • I pretend I have my own personal cheer squad made up of everyone who cares about me. They all clap and cheer me on and tell me I can do it - in my head of course! It works for me. Good luck :)
