*** firstly - I am sorry if this has been asked before! ***

I saw a post earlier today about logging “standing” when extended period of standing was outside the norm. There were some interesting responses that led me to wonder the following:

When I calculated my base calories, I entered my settings as
- Sedentary (most of the day sitting)
- Plan on exercising 3x 30 mins
- Goal: lose ½ pound per week

My daily calorie goal was calculated at 1740. (cuz I’m a freakin giant lol)

Question:
Considering the above… I walk 20 mins a day to/from work at a brisk pace. I try to box once a week (900 calorie burn) and I try to go running 3x a week at a 10min mile pace. In order to NOT cheat myself – is it recommended that I log all / some / or none of the above exercises? Does the 1740 include the estimated calories burned for the 3x week planned exercise?

Thanks in advance!

MFP bases your caloric intake goals based on not exercising at all. So in my opinion, if you are set at sedentary, then log away if you choose to.

As you had entered sedentary in your profile I'd be inclined I'd log all 3 of the activities.

Have a look at some of the BMR calculators and you'll see that a sedentary TDEE is 1.2 times your BMR - not a lot of activity. If you had gone for lightly active I'd probably log the running & boxing.

    Wait...wait...are you mocking me...???

    No? It's safe? Lol.

I tend to log anything over 10 mins (there's a thread about what to log/not to log on the go right now in this forum, check it out).

MFP doesn't assume you're doing exercise for your daily calories, just for your weekly goals.

^^^ Since you entered sedentary in your profile, it's in your best interest to log all three of the activities. MFP highly recommends eating back any calories you burn as exercise over and above your lifestyle, and "sedentary" means the numbers reflect very little exercise (or, if you define "exercise" as "raising your heart rate significantly for more than a minute or two", MFP's sedentary numbers include NO exercise whatsoever).

no way not at all! In fact your post is what caused me to wonder if I was logging 'correctly'. I tend to try and log everything too, but wondered if I was off base.

So... THANK YOU for your post! :flowerforyou:

I generally believe that if it's working then you're not offbase! (note: GENERALLY, if you're eating only sugar cubes and losing weight it may be technically "working" but you're still offbase!)
