Nutrisystems vs. Jenny Craig etc.

Anyone have any comments regarding these meal plans? As a single person, I have a hard time fixing food for one person. These seem ideal - but -- are they processed foods? Are they too expensive to do? Is the food tasteless? Am I wasting my time and money? Any comments - good and bad - would help me decide.....

I would not do any of them. Have you looked online if they offer the nutritional information for their meals. They should so people can decide for themselves if it is for them. I am guessing they don't offer that kind of information. I think they are mostly for people who need to lose a lot of weight and you need to. Can you pick a day of the week where you have time to prepare a couple of meals? That way you can eat them throughout the week. Also there are stores such Whole Foods that have freshly cooked single serving meals. Some might be costly but it would be the same if you ordered one of these meal programs. I have also seen here in San Antonio a couple of places that are preparing take out home cooked/clean meals. I hope this helps. :flowerforyou:

I was on Nurisystem and there food is edible. It was the lesser in price and easy with the home delivery.

You have to supplement the meals with certain veggies and other items like milk.

I felt full, lost weight, and it was easy. If you use it for 3-4 months and then come here and start logging, you may be fine.

The problem that I had was it did not teach me anything about eating. When I went off their foods, I was back to real world choices, and quickly regained the weight plus some.

I understand your thought process because this is why I did it. My family ate regular meals, and I ate the prepackaged stuff.....it took the choice away for me and made it simple.

    Good luck:flowerforyou:

If u really want to go that route, my mom lost 30 pounds doing JC..she LOVED the food and thought the prices were reasonable

I've heard not so great things about nutrisystem

Although I'm not single, my family doesn't eat the same foods and we cook individually. We found that cooking 'family' meals made portion control very difficult and a lot went to waste. So I buy beef, pork, chicken, sausage and package them in single serving sizes, then freeze. Breads such as whole wheat hamburger buns and pita are also packaged individually and frozen. I also buy small cans and frozen packs of veggies. In addition, we have lots of fresh veggies, fruit, eggs, cheeses, etc. It has been fairly easy to learn to cook for one + the little one. The teenagers make their own foods, as does my husband.

This might be an alternative to using a prepackaged meal plan?
  • Hi,
I am on Jenny Craig Direct right now. The food is very expensive (100-125 bucks a week), just for me. I've been on it for about a month, and to be honest with you I'm a little bored with the food. It's not that it tastes bad, because it doesn't. If you doctor it up and not microwave everything it tastes better. I've got about 35lbs to lose and let me tell ya, it's taking it's sweet time (like a 1lb a week).

The things I do like about it: 1. It teaches me portion size 2. It is easily ready when I don't have the time to fancy it up 3. When you reach halfway point of your weight loss, they start to ween you off of their food and you start making your own. 4. The weekly consultations are great, especially when I feel like quitting. 5. I do the Direct which the food is delivered to my house.

In my eyes it's very expensive, but worth it, especially for me because I had no idea where to start on how to lose weight besides getting my butt moving..:)

    Hope this helps.
    Good Luck!

Another options would be to eat low calorie tv dinners and still add your own milk and fresh fruits. You can go online or look on the boxes for the nutrition information. I use these part of the time when my family has something I can't eat or at work sometimes for lunch. Some of the ones I use are Lean Cuisine, Weight Watchers and Healthy Choice. They are a lot cheaper and there are lots of choices so I can always find one I like.
