Am I off on the right track? What am I suppose to be doing?

I just rode my exercise bike, also works my arms, for 5 minute warm-up, then did 1 minute intervals as fast as I could go bringing my heart rate on my HRM to 100% or higher, then did two minutes of slower but still good pace heart rate in 80%, then 1 minute of high, then 2 minutes of slower, for 20 minutes, then did 5 minute cool down. 30 minutes total and 360 calories burnt. I had to back up my stairs slowly and I can hardly type, but I feel AWESOME!

My HRM says below zone 1 min 10 secs, in zone 6 min 11 secs and above zone 22 min 39 secs.

Thanks :flowerforyou:

Yea, it sounds more or less like you have the right idea. I just started doing HIITs again this week, but I'm in the mood now to take them more seriously. On the elliptical, I did a warmup of about 5 minutes, then cocked it up to my 70% zone for about 3 minutes, did an all out sprint at about 90% for one minute, then back down to about 75% for 3.5 minutes of recovery. I repeated this interval about 4 times, then backed it off to 70%, with a cool down for about 4 minutes at about 60%, then to almost zero for 2 minutes. My total was about 25 minutes, but I spent about 5 minutes on the tready before and after. Because I know that the elliptical monitors are not that reliable in terms of accuracy, and I cannot afford a good HRM at this time, I rely more on my RPE. I burned about 175 cals if I pay attention to the numbers on machine, but I"m betting it was a little more.

Thanks for your reply and thanks for explaining what you did. I really had no idea but thought I would try it!
