I signed up for the warrior dash (First time) some time ago and it's August 18th. I am running well JOGGING fairly decent, not quite up for a full mile yet jogging but I'm getting there.
I know I'll be able to handle the running parts, my issue is the obstacles. I really don't have much upper body strength. I can't really do a full regular push up but I can do the "girly" ones (on knees) just fine. Any exercises that don't involve weights target upper body muscles??

Before Warrior Dash, the only upper body strength training I did was with 5 pound dumbbells and body weight (planks, pushups), and I was fine with all the obstacles.
SINCE then, and loving my feeling of accomplishment from completing WD, I've taken up heavy lifting and really wish I'd started that sooner. But really... you don't need that much upper body strength for it. It's more fun than anything - like being a little kid playing in the dirt! - and you can skip obstacles if you think they're beyond your abilities.0 -
Thanks
I really just want to focus on running really not strength training. I've seen the pictures they have on the website and they really don't look that intimidating.
Only one that's kinda iffy for me is "hard rain" where you're climbing up something with water pouring down around you, because I've climbed over rocks and crap that were wet and it's not fun when it's all slippery.
Thanks again for the input0 -
if you specifically dont want waeights you can do push up and dips i guess...but my suggestion is buy the box of resistance bands, put the handles on the 20 lb resistance and do curls, presses, tri excercises, and back excercises with them. You can also do a routine holding a 6,8 or 10 lb medicine ball...i have routines for both these options, so youd like to know just message me..it's a little long to post on here and im not even sure youll read this so ill wait to post them lol. Howveer both would surely add upper body strength for you0
