Measuring waist line.

Hello everyone,
Hope you are all having a great day. I was hoping someone out there could help clear something up for me.
Where is the proper spot to measure your waist line? I have been told at the belly button and then also have been told one inch above this. (for me these numbers are different)
Can anyone help?

  • Smallest part of your waist. Bend to the side to find your natutal waistline.

    I measure mine where i wear my pants and I do not wear them at my belly button so defiantly not that high

    wpgjim-- thanks as well but that way of measuring wont do for me as I wear my pants on my hips.

    Pick where works for you and note it, so you can repeat that measurement in a month or 6 months whatever frequency you'll use to see your changes over time.
    If YOU measure it at your belly button do it there the next time.

    I measure that part where I am fattest.
    Right at the belly button.
    I want to track progress - not be fitted for a vest.

    I also measure where I wear my pants. That's the area I'M interested in knowing progress in. My natural waist is super high, and technically that number doesn't mean anything to me since I would never wear pants that high.

    I say if you want to be able to recite/track your actual measurements, do it at the natural waist.

    It all depends on what you're interested in seeing progress in. Hell, do both!

    I always measure my waist at the smallest part of my stomach (some people that is where their belly button is, some not and that's why the belly button reference isn't the greatest) but I try to also do a belly measurement because I hold a lot of weight in my lower belly so those two measurements are usually quite different.

    The biggest thing is just to keep to the same area each time you measure. For me, both my waist and my belly show improvement when I'm working out so both are good measurements for me to track. I am usually more interested in my waist measurement because I like having an hourglass kind of shape.
