It's not a stupid question- it's just that the forums move really fast. It's not as esy as a yes or no answer- sweating is not an indication of calories burned, it has to do with the temp (obviously) but also your level of fitness (very fit people and very overweight people sweat more than average), your level of hydration, medical conditions, humidity, and surely other factors that aren't on the top of my head. I think it's actually counterintuitive- that your body uses more calories the cooler it is maintaining your body at 98.6 or whatever your normal temp is- but I think it has more to do with the difference between the external temperature and your body temperature that determines how many calories you burn, rather than the actual temperature itself. For example, if it's 58 degrees out, your body has to maintain a 40 degree difference from the outside temp.
Hydration is really the only thing that can be tied directly to sweating.0 -
11 min isn't that long to wait for a reply but you got it right sweat =/= calories (or else I'd already be skinny) but when you are exercising in summer temperatures you do need to be a little more aware of your hydration.
(and actually, it's not a stupid question, the makers of some questionable weight loss products and supplements love to make people think that their sauna pants or magic pills actually do something for you)0 -
I sure hope so. Its supposed to be 107F here (St. Louis) tomorrow:noway:0

when i'm out cutting the grass, i'll drop 3lbs in 2hrs worth of work....all water. I"ll gain it back over the next 24hrs. Sweating does not equal fat burn...so sweating a lot in Yoga, or on the Elliptical does not mean you will lose a lot of fat.0
