When I feel deprived, or find myself bemoaning the fact that I "can't" eat something, I give myself a mental head slap, shake it off, and remind myself that I "Can" eat anything, but I'm "CHOOSING" to eat within my goal calorie range. I know it's just semantics, but it really does make me feel better.

I think that's a really good strategy. I have a great book called "Eating Less" by Gillian Riley which deals with addictive eating, and one of her points is that if we think we are deprived then we want something all the more.

Giving yourself permission to eat what you want, but choosing a sensible portion (or choosing not to eat it at all) IS really powerful.
So much of losing weight (or the harder part, keeping it off) is mental/behavioural not physical.

Well done on finding what works for you!

You're empowering yourself. You're right - every bite is a choice, and we're strong enough to make the right choices. We can have everything we want. The question is always what do we want more, health and strength or things that put us over calories? We're only human and sometimes we choose to go over, but every day we choose to stay on target makes the next day just that much easier.
