OMG I'm Freaking out!

I'm doing my first 5k run on Sunday, ok you might not think that's a big deal but it is to me! I was speaking to my husband this morning & he said he was proud of what i'd achieved and that if i'd have gone back a few years then there's no way i'd have believed I could have run a race at all let alone 5k (due to many health and weight issues). That's when I started to feel all emotional, honestly I could have sat there & cried like a baby, no real idea why. And now when I think about racing I start to fill up (doing it now as i type!) what the hell is wrong with me...and if i'm like this now what and I going to be like on Sunday!!!
Help, is this normal?

You're pregnant. lol jk. I would think it can be normal for someone who went though a long and difficult struggle to lose weight because it is a big dream of mine to run a race....I have a fear of running in public because I have always felt fat and dreadful about myself, so I never could get over the image of myself jiggling down the sidewalk, so I would be emotional if I was about to run a 5k race too. Lots of luck to you!

It might be nerves. You're about to accomplish something huge. You may be feeling a lot of tension and pressure. Just breathe and enjoy the run. You're going to ROCK it!

For sure it's just nerves. I've done a few 1/2 marathons and I always get this feeling. It's a feeling of excitement and fear mixed together. Come race day, once you're in the crowd...it will be nothing but excitement. And wait until you cross the finish line...don't be surprised if you cry...it's such an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment. Go at your own pace and have a blast,

Changing your life for the better is an incredibly emotional journey. Just take it all in stride. You will be great! Besides, who cares if you cry through the whole race? It might be a very cathartic experience. Just use the day as celebration for all of your accomplishments and to reflect on how far you've come. You've got this! Good luck and let us all know how the race goes!

If anything, the fact that you are so worked up about it will mean that you will get even more race day adrenaline, and therefore will do awesome! Congratulations on the milestone.

5k completed and it wasn't so bad (I hurt a lot but i can cope). I did fill up a little before the race but once I got going I was fine & after the race i was too tired to think about being upset! I look back and think how silly it was to feel that way but now I can look forward & say - i did that - with pride - thanks for your support! :flowerforyou:

I did the 5k in 37 minutes - not the fastest but it's rocky/muddy terrain & had some big hills along the way but i'm so very glad I finished it running over the finish line

Good job! And that's a great time for your first race. I'm on my third this week and hope to be close to that time!
