Are fruit smoothies for breakfast bad for you?

Hi,

I was wondering whether eating a lot of fruit of breakfast is bad for you. When I was pregnant I had gestational diabetes and fruit was the last thing I could eat in the morning. My blood sugars went sky high. It wasn't so bad at lunch, and then in the evening fruit hardly touched my blood sugar levels. I know this happens because of a known hormonal phenomenon.

I don't have the high sugars anymore since I am no longer pregnant, but I was wondering whether having fruit smoothies now in the morning may possibly increase the risk of insulin resistance in the future.

So, i.e. will a high sugar intake in the morning (whether natural or refined) increase the risk of diabetes in the future? Does anyone know??
