My job requires me to travel A LOT. I want to join a gym because with fall/winter closing in, I would prefer to do my walking indoors. Can anyone out there recommend a national gym that I can use in any city I happen to find myself assigned to? Thanks!

what areas o you travel to the most?

Do you HAVE to join a gym?
For my exercise, I walk almost every day, (weather permitting!) I also dance to a fast oldies CD that my husband made up of all my favorite old songs. (Like "Love Shack", Wild, Wild West", "Mony, Mony", "Footloose", and "Gloria")
It's free, (unlike a gym!) fun, and I can even watch tv at the same time, so I never get bored!
I also recently aquired the Wii Fit, and jog to that, which is a lot of fun, and easy too!

I love working out at a gym, and if you travel a lot one gym that is almost every except up here in alaska where I live sadly is 24 hour fitness, they even have them in some airports. Try that, I loved their gym when I lived in Washington.

If all else fails most hotels have fitness centers... when I used to travel a bit for work years ago I think I worked out more when I was out of town because I didn't have anything else to do in the evenings...

planet fitness is pretty common in the northeast. It really depends on what cities you go to the most and where in those cities you are.

I use Anytime Fitness and have been really happy there so far. Reasonable rates, clean, good variety of weight and cardio machines. Not sure where you are, but I know Anytime Fitnesses are in lots of cities.

My assignments are usually in the southeast. Sometimes I stay in hotels, but mostly on site with no equipment whatsoever. I have a few travel items I bring with me but I need to walk daily and when I'm in a strange town I'd much prefer to be indoors when it starts getting darker earlier. Thanks for all the good suggestions!

When traveling I do one of two things. I take my tubes and work out with those as well as walking. The other option is to go to any gym and ask if you can try their gym. Some will charge and some will not. If you tell them you are new in the area and looking for a gym they generally will let you work out free. I have also used the hotel gym.

We have anytime fitness and snap fitness in my area. They are in most major areas around here. Check the websites to see if there are any in your area. They are open 24/7 and are pretty reasonable. They have lots of specials. A lot of companys as well as insurance plans will pay for them or at least give you discounts. My husbands company get a 20% discount per month. You can pay monthly or for longer periods of time. Hope this helps.
  • We have a membership at the YMCA. It's not expensive and you can use it at all the locations... The YMCA is pretty much everywhere.

In central Texas, we have Gold's Gym... I'm not sure where all there locations are. You could google the different gyms to find out.

My wife belongs to Curves for Women and has been able to get a guest pass for every place we've gone - from coast to coast.

I'll be joining a gym called goodlife fitness this winter ... I know it has locations all across Canada ... not sure if it goes beyond our borders but it has everything I'm looking for including the fact that I can use it even if I visit my daughter out of town ... or vacation in BC ... or just feel like trying out a different class then the ones offered at the location I join.

The YMCA actually has this thing called the AWAY program. You don't have full access everywhere because each city's YMCA is a different business but if you sign up at your local YMCA you can talk to them about it. Basically if you're on a business trip and the YMCA in that city participates in the AWAY program than you can go depending on their policy but a membership to one YMCA does not get you membership to every YMCA. You can talk to your YMCA and to the ones in the cities you travel to to see if they can accommodate you.
I know I didn't explain it the right way but I'm sure the staff at your YMCA will be more than happy to help you.
  • anytime fitness....24 hour with locked door, need a key fob to get in and some have tanning beds.
clean state of the art equipment.

    good luck in your quest

You might be right but the membership that we have we are able to use it anywhere, we have traveled to Kansas, Texas, and Florida and used it, we live in SC.

Check your health insurance provider's website. Usually they have deals with nationwide gyms so you can get a membership at a lower rate. Then from there whenever you're traveling anything in their network is fair game.
