Lower Ab Workout?

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good way to work your lower abs? Preferably some exercises that are simple and cause less stress to your back and neck (are there any like that)? I'm sure my form is bad, but whenever I try to do crunches/the equivalent for lower abs, my back starts to hurt before I feel the good kind of pain in my abdomen. Thoughts?
