Hi all,
I have a favour to ask. I am writing my dissertation in public health on a possible link between obesity and unplanned pregnancy. It is hard to find literature, but I would like to get some opinions from the average jane...
It would be great to hear from anyone who has an opinion on this, just to get more ideas for me on what to search for. Should you have a suggestion for me for a forum, which might have discussions on the topic, any tips, hints and links and obviously personal experiences are more than welcome.

Let me briefly explain:
There are some studies that suggest that obesity and contraception (I'm talking pill, implant, ring, all the hormonal stuff) don't go well together. This may be for different reasons (as suggested in the studies):
1. Obese women don't ask for it or don't go to the doctor at all because of stigma/self-esteem issues
2. Doctors don't prescribe them to obese women because they think it is not necessary (i.e. they have less sex than thin women, which is not true!) or because they worry it may not work properly
3. homonal contraceptives may not work properly, based on the biology (I still have to read more about this, but basically it doesn't seem that way)

So, following on from this, there is also the idea, that unplanned pregnancies (followed through or not) are more common in obese women. In addition to the three reasons above, it may also have to do with phsychological reasons or what the nerds call "the lack of ability to negotiate safer sex" - basically agreeing with a guy to use a condom.

If you have any opinion on or personal experience with this topic, please tell me about it. I am not going to use this in my dissertation, I just want to get a few more ideas on what to look for in my searches. And also please don't think any of this is my personal opinion.
Thanks very much,
Jo
