Sodium - how much?

I've never really taken much notice of my sodium but recently changed it so I can see it on my diary.

How much sodium is the minimum someone should be getting? I know that there are obvious problems with going over, but I also know sodium is important in the body so wondered if there is a minimum?

Most days I'm under 2,000 with some days as low as 400. I have mine set to 2.500 but not sure if that is close to what it should be.

Just don't know much about it to know so would appreciate any info. x

I have read that 500 is a safe minimum.

Sodium is/was my diet downfall. At one point my scale did not move until I re-evaluated my sodium intake...now I try to keep it under 1000. If I dont monitor it and go overboard on the salt I get terrible water retention and I feel bloated and sluggish. On the odd occasion when I have a takeaway (which I've heard is laden with salt) I usually drink extra water to compensate. I also know salt is important part of a diet, but am unsure of the minimum recommendation...I just know doing the above works for me. Of course, everyone is different!
