Best food before working out?

I know that protein is important AFTER the work out.... but what is best to eat before working out? I typically go with a yogurt or piece of fruit....

    Whatver works for you!

    I personally can't eat before a workout.

Some people eat carbs, some eat protein (you don't HAVE to have it after...it can be anytime), some want fats.

If yogurt and fruit help you, go for it! :)

I swear by the Belvita Crackers that are complex carbs. They are the only pre work out food that gets me through back to back advanced classes at the gym. I usually get 1200 cal burns out of both classes (per my polar HRM) and I don't crash if I eat these. If I don't have them, it is a sad story and I drag butt through class! I eat egg substitute with homemade salsa about 30 mins after working out!

I pretty much always eat a banana for it's energy boost and potassium/calcium/iron content which are essential, especially when lifting.

Oranges here, large ones. If I can eat two of them, one after the other about 45 minutes before I go for a run, I never seem to flake out.

and then as you pointed out, protein afterwards (O luffs me eggs :oD)
