How many reps/sets?

Hi everyone! I've inorporated strength training into my routine... Mondays and Wednesdays I warm up for 30 minutes on the treadmill, and then hit the weight machines.
I use a weight on each machine to where I can do 12 reps.. and the 10-12 are usually very difficult. I do 3 sets of 12 reps.
The first week, I was very sore about 36 hours after lifting. The past two weeks, the next day it feels good to stretch my muscles and I can feel them (if that makes sense) but I'm not sore at all.
Does this seem appropriate? Should I increase the number of sets? Opinions anyone? I'm just a girl trying to gain muscle to assist in the fat burn!
Thank you all! :flowerforyou:
