U.S. Swimming Olympic Trials

Wow, what a motivation it is to watch the Olympic Trials. Swimming trials began yesterday and go through July 2nd. The showdowns between Lochte and Phelps are as good as any rivalry, ever. All of the finals races have been great. My favorite final so far was the Men's 100m Breastroke when Hansen won with Kitijima (sp?) watching. I love the comeback kids but I also love the close races that are almost hard to tell who won without seeing the times.

What have been your favorite swim trials races? What are you looking forward to in the coming week of swimming?

In our house, we've been watching them, but not necessarily following along super closely. My daughters all love swimming, so they enjoy watching "the big boys and girls" doing it. And I enjoy showing the girls what types of things they can be doing (i.e. olympic trials level athletics) if they work hard, train hard, etc. "Exercising is like homework for your body. Those guys do lots of homework.", I end up telling them. (I know, kind of goofy... But to 10 and 7 yo's, it's a fairly understandable analogy.)

We've also been enjoying the diving trials, and track and field. Interestingly, the entire family gathered round spell-bound to watch the high jump competition. Nothing like explaining the Fossberry Flop to 7yo's.

Keep enjoying! being to catch all of these "outsider" type sports (as in, anything other than baseball, football, or basketball) is a real treat. TdF in 3 days!!!
