PSOC and Weight loss..

Okay, so I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome).
It is a when a female has an imbalance of female sex hormones. It causes menstrual cycle changes, cysts in the ovaries, trouble getting, pregnant, acne, weight gain. It also makes one more prone to getting diabetes.
I do not know all to much about it, nor do I know anyone else who has it.
I weigh 160 pounds, and I absolutely hate the way my body looks, I'm now 19 and I want to change and become healthier.
I know I cannot have any candy, sodas or any sugary drinks, or any white rice or bread.
I also read that I need a diet for a low glycemic index. (Eh.. I don't know much about dieting.. Never paid attention to it.)
Is there anyone who has this or knows enough about it.
I'd also appreciate any recipe ideas (without meat preferably) and work out ideas to lose weight with this condition.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help or give any advice.

I'm actually interested in seeing some of these replies as well. I was recently diagnosed as well with PCOS and honestly my doctor wasn't much help on the matter with lifestyle changes. Feel free to add as well. =]0

I believe that a PCOS diet is similar to the South Beach or the Atkins diet.
Many women with PCOS also have insulin resistance, and the lower carb diets are really good for insulin resistance. I had insulin resistance 7-8 years ago. I cut my carbs down under 50g net per day, and I lost about 20 pounds in 2 months, and got pregnant ( we had not been preventing pregnancy for 16 months...). I believe my IR has recently reappeared. It took me 3 months to lose 7 pounds, and then I cut my carbs under 100g net per day, and lost 11 pounds in 6 weeks--and I have even reduced my workout!0 -
Thanks a bunch.
This is really helpful. Now I know where to start.0 -
I have PCOS and began my weight loss about where you're at. I have lost almost 20 pounds since then. I didn't get on a "PCOS diet," per se, but rather, I began eating "clean." I cut out artificial sweeteners, coffee (both of these had made my acne worse), processed foods, deli meats, almost all white flour. I now keep a diet full of unsweetened low- or non-fat dairy (think plain Greek yogurt over flavored regular), lean meats, whole grains/whole flour products, fresh fruits and vegetables, and limit my drinks to water, club soda, or tea (and yes, the occasional beer). Don't be overwhelmed though! I didn't do this overnight or the overhaul would have been shocking. I aimed to make one healthy change at a time, and you can do it too! Plain yogurt over flavored and fresh fruits over frozen were my latest tweaks!
As for exercise, do whatever feels right for you. Any good exercise program, preferably one that somehow incorporates both aerobic and resistance or strength training, should work! Start out small as with your diet and work up to about 5-6 days a week.
Good luck!0
