Exercising when it's cold

So the ambient temperature in my house is probably about 13 degrees celsius, I've never been bothered by the cold before but this Winter I'm feeling it something harsh!

I'm finding it is Really putting me off of doing exercise. I don't want to face the cold of changing into my work out clothes, my muscles hurt sooner and for longer (even with stretching after.....I think I'm probably not warming up sufficiently, it's like I Can't warm up), eventually I get warm enough to sweat and then I'm cold and sweaty. The kinds of workouts that I am trying to do are turbofire and strength training (alternate days). I've missed more days now than I care to think.

Other than the predictable "toughen up princess" response that someone is going respond with, what strategies to people in cold places (who Don't use any kind of heating) use to get warm and stay warm and be comfortably warm before and during their workout?

Edit: It's cold enough that trackpants and skivvy alone do Not keep me warm

I actually wear my workout clothes to sleep (down to my running socks) so that I have no excuse to not wake up and exercise first thing in the morning.

Hubby just laughs because I am in compression tights etc but if you have to get changed I wouldn't want to get out of bed either!

    Come to Canberra!

Getting down to as low as -5 some nights, 13 is one of our HIGHEST temperatures for the past month.

I know what you mean - it's not really cold where I live (Western Australia) but our houses aren't designed to hold the heat and it can be really chilly when we get up in the morning.

I haven't gone so far as to sleep in my workout gear but I do have it all ready so as soon as I get out of bed I get dressed in my workout clothes, with a jacket over the top if I need it. That's even before I go to the loo.
Then I'm up and dressed and as I'm ready to go, it's easier to drag myself out the door for a run - as long as it's not raining, that really puts me off!

My other suggestion would be to experiment with what you are wearing. Probably layers are going to keep you warmest when you get started and you can peel off a layer as you warm up. Thermals can work wonders if you have another layer on top.

lmao I did exactly that last night! I went to sleep in my gym clothes so I could get up and work out straight away :P and it's the first time I've done it haha high five!

get some UnderArmour gear, helps keep the sweat off you and stops you getting cold.

We train preseason team training in Jan/Feb outside. Temps in and around freezing, not so much fun on a wet muddy pitch. I use it all the time

I'm up for a trade - you can have the chilly nights and the 7.15am sunrise.... and I'll take light, warm mornings anytime!

Alrighty, so today I dressed in workout clothes, 2 layers, sneakers, sports bra, no excuses. I am intrigued by this under armour stuff, not just for cold sweaty workouts at home but riding in the cold too, I notice espially under my bra gets sweaty and cold.....I guess one would wear under armour instead of bra and top and have to change before work yeah? Is it worth the expense? Does it have to be under armour or will any wicked (as in wicking) fabric do the job? *dreams of a cold and sweaty free future*.

Aight, time to do some Turbofire :-) (shall report back regarding numb feet now that I have bit the bullet and dressed in layers)
