I've said this many times, the body is mapped for survival. It doesn't care what you look like on the outside, it only wants to keep living and it will do anything possible to accomplish that.
The body has an energy balance and if the deficit is too great, it has fail safes to protect you from over doing things. When you are working out and you begin to yawn, that is the first noticeable sign. If you keep pushing, then you may get light headed and starry. Continued pushing and you will black out or faint. These signs can come on fairly slow or rapidly depending on your intensity levels.
All of these are signs that your under-fueled for your activity level. In plain english, you didn't have the carbs necessary to sustain that activity. Your body gives you these cues so that you can properly fuel and if you don't, it overrides and will shut you down as a survival mechanism.
My suggestion, have carbs before you workout, even if it is way late at night or super early in the morning. You can't drive your car on an empty tank, you shouldn't push your body on empty either. ~Grow or Die
