Okay, this probably has been brought up already. I think a way to help us from double posting so often or wonderinf it the topic has been discussed the search feature will be wonderful. *hint hint wink wink* Watcha think?

Anyway, I was reading the ingrediants on the back of some of the 90 calorie food products. Many of the products have Partially Hydrogenated Oils...

I've heard Partially Hydrogenated Oils is like smoking , it will slowly kill you over time and even make you gain a lot of unwanted weight.

I'm starting to wonder, yeah these foods taste really good, but at only 90 calories is the type of oils being used worth the sacrafice?

When I was a kid, I never really thought or worried about this, but now that I am thirty I do. Also seeing people just a few years older than I either over weight, heart problems, health problems, I don't want to go into any one of those categories.

I think this morning I may have ate my last 90 calorie pack?

Sure it's only 90 calories, but do you want to train yourself that "these kind of foods" are ok?

If I'm going to have a treat - I have a treat. I don't like the "sort of" treats. I think it teaches your body to crave these foods everyday. Once the calorie counting goes away, you might have 2 or 3 of these 90 calorie treats. Or you might have more dessert, or chips, or whatever. This, of course, is coming from someone who would love to have little treats every day - but definitely shouldn't!

I like to think of stuff I'm putting in my mouth as food. Crisco is not food (hydrogenated oils). HFCS is not food. Butter is food. Honey is food.

    That's just how I operate.
  • On Dicovery Health cable station, I watched a program with Dr. Oz. He says anything with "hydrogenated" in it should be avoided totally. BAD,BAD,BAD for your health. That and anything enriched. That eliminates alot of different foods, mostly packaged. Chris.

These were touted in the 50's as the miracle healthy alternative to animal fats, because animal fats go bad and hydrogenated has a very very long life. Well, like most "healthy" claims, what they have found is that hydrogenated oils are unable to be processed by our bodies natural cleaning system, therefore they build up in the system and creat clogged arteries etc.

Basically, if it is made to last on the store shelf for several months, you probably really don't want to put it in your mouth. These types of food lack in nutritional value and are really no better or worse for you than their regularly "bad" relatives (example, oreos and 100 cal pack oreos, for heaven's sake, just have an oreo!)

To quote another person from this site, sorry I don't know who it was, but if you can't pronounce it why are you eating it?

I just checked mine and they also have high fructose corn syrup, uhg! Once these are gone, I will not buy them anymore. :frown:
  • I think I'm there too, nothing with partically Hydrogenated Oils will be bought by me again.. well not too often. I know a lot of times we cannot avoid it, but I'm going to try to stick with stuff that lasts a month or less.
