Have you ever applied for/gotten any scholarship grants?

I've been reading stories about a lot of people getting through college on grants alone, without working a day in their life, yet so many students have mountains of debt.

Are some people just luckier than others? Do a majority of students not know of these free money opportunities?

What was your situation like?

    I went to college on a football scholarship

    I joined the military. I have my GI bill, BUT I still have to work.

    I applied for federal grants and had the majority of my college courses paid for, probably the only benefit I had growing up in poverty!
