What to eat?!

Hi! Since coming on this site I've started exercising for about 1 1/2 hour to 2 hours a day because I'm really addicted to the good feelings when I exercise. Plus because I'm bipolar is helps me regulate my mood. But because I burn so many calories with the exercise I end up with lots left at the end of the day, generally around 500 or so. I don't know what to eat that is healthy but would use that many calories up after having my breakfast, lunch and tea! I do have 100 calorie snacks if I feel hungry but I still can't eat that many calories except by eating junk food as its high in calories! Any ideas?

Real Peanut butter - high in calories, and lots of protein! Put it on some whole grain bread or crackers like Kashi.

If you are exercising more you don't just need calories, you need good nutrition to rebuild your muscles that you're breaking down. Protein is a good bet.

As long as the rest of your day is not high in fat then nuts would be great. Sunflower seeds are about 250 calories for a 1/4 cup.
  • try putting avocado in your salad, drizzle it w/ olive oil! That will give you extra calories and good healthy fat

Drinking a protein shake before your workout fuels your body and taking one after your workout repairs your body. Sometimes I add 1/2 frozen banana, 1 t. smuckers all natural peanutbutter and 1/2 c. almond milk to a scoop of chocolate protein powder in the blender. It is delicious and packed with good quality calories...around 230. These shakes are great and can replace a meal/snack throughout the day. Try a scoop in your favorite smoothie recipie and turn it into a power smoothie!
