Hey Ya'll, Hope everyones day is great~~~~
I just have a quick question. Within 10 minutes of working out on the elliptical my feet start tingling and feeling numb. Does anyone know why this is happening???:grumble: TIA:flowerforyou:

that happens to me when I don't move my foot. So now every so often I lift it off a bit and problem solved0

I used to have that problem, as well as numb hands. On the hands, there is a vein (or it could be an artery) that gets pressed when gripping the handles of the elliptical and therefore restricts blood flow, so that's what brings that on.
In the feet it could be the same thing. I found I was tying my shoes too tightly too, and loosening that helped alleviate the numbness.
Does your numbness go away while you're still on the elliptical?0 -
ahhhhh. i'm not alone!!! i have always had this prob on the elliptical too. as abatres7 said, i start to lift my heels, or wiggle my toes some, and it seems to alleviate some of the numbing sensation going on. i'll also try15 mins on the treadmill, 15mins on the elliptical and back and forth so that i'm still moving but also so that the numbing doesn't turn to burning (as it does for me at some length). buying a wide width shoe helped me a bit too, as well as thick socks! just my input0

I get the same thing. I've always just assumed they were falling asleep from not moving. I try to lift them up every so often to get the blood moving around the bottoms of my feet again.0

me too... I just tap my feet a few times while I am coming down so people don't notice as I didn't know if anyone else had this issue...lol0

No. It goes away a few minutes after I walk around after my workout...
I thought it was just me too haha..:grumble:0 -
Ooo... weird! I just had a random compulsion to post the same inquiry, and here 'tis!
Mine drive me nuts. They do get numb from the pressure of pushing down without changing position, but it's difficult for me to move them around in my shoes. It makes me wish they had special elliptical shoes... with gel soles or something.
Does anyone have special shoes that prevent this sort of thing?0 -
When I bought my elliptical the trainer warned me about this problem and said it was due to the width of the foot pedals. If they are too far apart it effects the hips which in turn can cause numbness in your feet. I bought a "spirit" elliptical which was supposedly constructed in a way to avoid this problem. It's a middle of the line machine which I've loved and never have had any numbness with!0

this happens to me too.
I read the following on the Jillian Michaels website. You can sign up for her free emails - I've gotten a lot of good ideas and exercise tips.
Do You Have the Right Shoes?
Sometimes people complain about numbness in their toes during workouts. If you're experiencing this, it's most likely because you need bigger shoes. The shoes you wear when you work out should be a half size larger than your normal size, because the feet tend to swell during exercise. The extra space in the shoe will create a comfort zone without screwing up your foot mechanics.
I like the suggestion of loosening your laces. It couldn't hurt, right?
Good Luck!0 -
That quote from Jillian makes sense. After I got my new workout shoes (Asics) the numbness went away. They have a great arch support which I need, so maybe new shoes is the answer.0
