Spinning....need some thoughts about it

I'm a 6'5", 340 pound dude built like a football player...I've been really interested in joining a Spinning class at my local YMCA, but I don't want to look like a huge tool if the bike breaks underneath me! As far as cardio goes, I'm currently running at 6mph for 5-15 minutes at a clip, then lifting while alternating rope jumping or CrossFit moves, and then wrapping with 20-25 mins of elliptical or stationary bike work. So, my questions are:
1. Will those tiny bikes hold up to me? And...
2. What general advice can you give me regarding how taxing it is, what tips you can offer, etc...
Any advice will be appreciated; thanks.

I LOVE SPIN CLASS!!! I am not sure the weight ability of the bikes. I have not met a spin instructor yet that isnt the nicest most aweome people. I would suggest finding out when the spin class is at your gym and go at the end of class when the instructor isnt rushed and ask all your newbie questions then. Have them show you then how to fit the bike for you and how to work the bike for what they will want you to do in class. If you did it before a class they are trying to make sure all the newbies are fit ok and answering questions - they will have way more time afterwards and the room will be emptying so it will be more private. They need to help you figure out your "flat road" and what gear you need to hold your body weight when you stand and "run"
The first class will hurt your butt - big time. The key isnt bike shorts or those damn cushioned seats... its going to hurt regardless. The key is getting your butt back on the spin bike later that week and the week after that. After 2-3 classes your butt wont hurt anymore... promise.
The best part of the class - expecially for being new... typically they are done in the semi dark. NO ONE can see your gear so if you need a break you lower your gear and just keep moving.0 -
6'1", and was a shade over 270 the first time I tried spinning. Actually used an app on my phone so I could try it first without embarrassing myself in a class. it's BRUTAL, but you can do it. I'm a big guy, but you'd make me step to the side if we met in a dark alley, so I can't say what the bike will do for you. But at 270, there was not even a hint of instability. And there was a ton of room to move the seat and handlebars further up than I needed. You'll fit just fine. Chrissy is right about the seat. It'll hurt the first time, unless you're a regular outdoor biker. After that it'll be fine.
DO have the instructor show you how to adjust the bike.
DO have the instructor tell you what they mean if they are going to use terms like position 1, 2 or 3,
DO have the instructor give you ideas on what gear to use, but feel free to use whatever you're comfortable with
DON"T worry about having to take a break, lower your gears, or even having to bail. People do it all the time.
Good luck!0
