What a Cluster

So, to start off... I am a soon-to-be year 1 veterinarian student. Moral of the story, starting in August I will have no life aside from my nose being stuck in textbooks. Does anyone have any tips to stay motivated to eat healthy and exercise? I try very hard not to buy boxed food and I avoid fast food like the plague but those late nights in the library, it's just too easy to grab something quick to get back to studying.

Also, my current job does not allow me to eat as many meals as I should to keep my metabolism high throughout the day. How do you keep from getting hungry throughout the day and how do you avoid that 2PM crash?

First of all, it's a myth that you have to eat frequently to speed up your metabolism. Meal frequency has nothing to do with metabolism.

Second of all, welcome to the veterinary world! I've been a vet tech for many years. I currently work 12 hour overnight shifts. We are very minimally staffed so I can't leave to get something to eat. And delivery is usually closed. So what I do is I bring enough food to last throughout my shift and keep me satiated. The satiated part is the key to avoiding the snack machine. Bring enough food to last the day. You are legally entitled to breaks every few hours. I always make sure to eat something before clocking in because it's usually crazy and I don't get a chance to eat for a few hours. I try and make sure that meal has substantial protein to make me feel fuller. Hope that helps.
