i am doing 6 week 6 pack, sit up, lunges burpes, etc which i think counts for strength but i would really like to get some weights. where do i start? how much weight do i start with. i can not go to the gym(kids) and all i have is 5 pound dumbells. willing to buy some just how much for my first set. i am looking to tone the belly. which exercise with weights will focus on the core?

Look for weights and benches on Craigslist - you can get them really cheap there. I'd recommend a set that goes up to about 300lbs - probably more than you'll need, but it'll give you room to grow. I'd get an Olympic barbell (25kg/45lbs) and plates to go with it, or a set of adjustable dumbells, or both...
Compound exercises are good for your core. Squats, deadlifts, bench press, overhead press, row. Pretty much anything that makes you engage your core to stabilize the rest of your body during the lift. I'd also recommend reading the book Starting Strength to get you going - and then following that plan.
Good luck!0
