Hi everyone,

I had 16 sessions with a personal trainer (focusing mostly on weights) and each session was 30 minutes long. I saw her twice a week. After the 16 sessions, I did not lose any weight but I lost 1% body fat....is this too little?

Also, my trainer said that in order for stationary biking to be "effective", I can't read while biking....what is your opinion? How do you pass the time on a stationary bike?

So eight weeks and you didn't lose any weight?? That sounds .....not good.

I take spinning classes, actually. Any stationary biking is going to be as hard as you make it and if you can make it hard, and maintain that while reading, go for it. There are no hard and fast rules about that except that you get out of it what you put in. I see your trainers point...I know I'd probably have a hard time concentrating on pushing myself if I was engrossed in a book.......but if you can do it, then do it.

I personally can't read while riding the stationary bike. I find myself not pushing as hard because it takes too much focus to read. I watch tv sometimes, but most times I am just pushing to get my heart rate up and getting through the work out.

Whether no weight loss and 1% body fat loss in 2 months is good or bad depends on how much you have to lose. If you don't have much to lose, it's just harder to lose.

If you can read on any piece of cardio equipment then you're not working hard enough.
