Warrior Dash

I'm running my first warrior dash on Saturday. I have two questions....

1) Any advise for a first timer?

2) My older sister is running it too. I'm a faster runner than her (2 minutes faster per mile). Although she is tough, I fear she may struggle with some of the obstacles. So, should I be the nice brother and hold back to help her or go full out? She has already joked that I'm too competitive to stay back and help her. My running buddy wants to do one next year so I could go full out next year. What do you think I should do?

What fun is it to do it TOGETHER if you're just gonna leave her in the dust?

Awesome! I'm assuming you're doing Minnesota WD? If so, what time? I'm in the 11:30.

Let me tell you, it's awesome and you'll have a blast! My family and I chose to run at our own paces and I don't think you'll have to worry about any of the obstacles. They're not as bad as the pictures/descriptions make them out to be.

Wear moisture wick clothing so you don't get bogged down with water/mud, tie your shoes tighter than you'd like to and double knot them, protect your knees if yours are sensitive because the ground is hard and uneven. Other participants were super friendly and will help you out if you need it.

If you have any spectators coming with you, let them know that the shuttles will be dirty right away, so they shouldn't wear nice clothes. Also, parking is $20, so have that ready.

Here's a link to my recap from last year's Minnesota WD. Feel free to contact me with specific questions! Most importantly, HAVE FUN!

What kind of shoes do most people wear? I have plenty of old running shoes but I hear they just absorb water and slow you down. I'm tempted to wear my minimalist shoes but they're my only ones and I'm afraid they'll never be clean again.

I wore regular running shoes that I didn't mind throwing away when done (you can donate them at WD, but if you do, bring another pair to change into!). I didn't feel like my shoes hindered me at all, other than hearing that lovely squish with each step when I was wet. My fiance washed his running shoes afterward last year and the mud all came out; though I don't know if there is a material difference between the mesh on his and the material of your minimalist shoes.

I'm in the 5 pm heat. I have a long drive so it was the only one I could do.

Hopefully you are done by this point ... so how did it go?

I'm a little interested in the one in September, but am not much of a runner, and am curious if everyone truly RUNS between obstacles or if there were some people doing fast walking. I've had knee surgery on both knees and they just don't allow me to run much. I am, however, in good shape otherwise. I love the idea of the obstacles, but wouldn't want to be the only one walking if everyone else takes off dashing (as the name implies).

    Hope you had fun.

@ScubaAmyMN: No, not everyone runs between obstacles. In fact, I'd say it's a 50/50 split between runners and walkers.

It just depends what you want to do. I would stay with your sister because I just think it would be more fun to do it with someone else. But that's just me. if you are really in it for the competition aspect, then you could just agree to go at your own paces.

Dave stayed with me and he was AWESOME! He was great support and helped me tons. I am not sure I could have done it without him. The dash was out of my comfort zone, glad I finished. I think they event planners should have planned for the heat, it was 87 with a heat index of 95 when we started.
