Tips to not feel hungry

Hi - I am new here. I have been logging for a couple of weeks now. I haven't seen a change on the scale yet, but I know I feel better concentrating on eating healthy foods. I was traveling last weekend and was completely turned off by the airport food items, so I know that being consistent is helping re-wire my brain to prefer real foods already. Small victory!
I started with a goal of losing 1lb/week and was starving and irritable, so I lowered it to 0.5 lb/week, and am doing better. After doing some reading around the forum for tips, I realized that the 1 lb/week goal is below my BMR, so probably not a good idea, but I still feel hungry a lot between meals.
I am trying to eat less food more frequently and have fresh fruit available for dealing with the munchies. I know veggies would be better than fruit, but I am a sugar fiend and the fruit is helping prevent me from cravings for cookies and other sugary snacks.
Any other suggestions? Is it just a matter of my body getting used to the smaller portion size?
