Questions About Running

So I just recently started running again after almost 2 years of basically no physical activity. It seems a lot harder than before. I'm sure that's because I'm pretty far out of shape but I do have a few questions..

Question 1- I've been reading about Belly breathing vs Chest breathing for runners. Is that specifically just long breaths vs short breaths?

Question 2- In the the Nose out through the mouth or is that wrong?

Question 3- Should I stay below the pace where my lungs start hurting (for example I stayed below that today and I ran 2 miles without stopping) or should I be doing interval training?

Question 5- My lungs hurt when I run fast. Almost like someone is pouring freezing cold water on them. Is that a normal sensation?

Question 6- I've been drinking 8-10 glasses of water per day and I've had bad cotton mouth when running. Is that normal?

Question 7- I'm also wondering how other people recover from their run because afterwards I generally feel drained. That's why I've only been running of the evenings lately.

question 1 : my breathing depends on the type of runs i'm doing . on my long and steady runs it's more long belly breaths, on my speed and hill runs it's shorter breaths on the harder portions and chest breathing. sprint sessions are kinda whatever i need to do keep myself from passing out.

question 2 : once again depends on the speed for me. steady less intense runs i can do in and out through the mouth. more rigorous running i become a mouth breather.

question 3 : why not mix in both?

    question 4 : trick question??

question 5: yes. just ease back when you can't take it anymore

question 6 : drink more water, son! 8-10 is like what you should be drinking on a regular day. on days i do my long run i get a good 8-10 in about an hour or so before hand. during the run i easily drink another 4-6. afterwards i get like 8-10 more in. for my shorter runs it's about half that.

question 7: i always feel good wise energy after a run, even after my long run. my feet and hips on the other hand.... i think hydrating properly will help a good deal with your energy levels.

You drink 8-10 glasses of water an hour before you run? I'd puke. And Where do you keep 4-6 glasses of water for during a run? A camel back?

i wear one of those dorky looking fuel belt things since i dont like carrying stuff in my hands when i run and i wear compression stuff so there isn't a lot of space to hold my cellphone and my keys http://www.fuelbelt.com/

i drink a lot of water because i sweat a lot. i can think about exercise and start sweating  also i tend to do my runs after noon so if i wake up at 8 AM that's enough time to get in 8 cups of water. i think if i ran first thing in the morning, i'd probably only do 4 cups

Ahh.. I thought you were saying that literally in the hour before you run than in that hour you consume 8-10 glasses of water.. lol.

Question 1- I've been reading about Belly breathing vs Chest breathing for runners. Is that specifically just long breaths vs short breaths?
breathe with your diaphragm so their air fills the lower part of the lungs. If your stomach expands you are doing it right. If just your chest expands you are only filling the top half of your lungs.
Question 2- In the the Nose out through the mouth or is that wrong?
it doesn't matter. Breathe however you need to to get enough air.
Question 3- Should I stay below the pace where my lungs start hurting (for example I stayed below that today and I ran 2 miles without stopping) or should I be doing interval training?
you will benefit more in the beginning by running easy for a few months. In that time you will build the aerobic capacity and leg strength to benefit from fast running later.
Question 5- My lungs hurt when I run fast. Almost like someone is pouring freezing cold water on them. Is that a normal sensation?
. It's normal when you are not in shape. That sensation will go away with more training.
Question 6- I've been drinking 8-10 glasses of water per day and I've had bad cotton mouth when running. Is that normal?
    Drink more water.
Question 7- I'm also wondering how other people recover from their run because afterwards I generally feel drained. That's why I've only been running of the evenings lately.
Keep training and you will begin to recover quicker. As you get stronger add more running and your body will adapt to that training load. You can get to the point of running twice a day and recovering in between sessions enough to not feel bad. It just takes time.
