Calorie count higher on my HRM?

I've always been told that the calorie count on cardio machines was not accurate, so I decided to use a Heart Rate Monitor to eliminate the guess work. I used the HRM for my past two workouts and both times the calorie count was higher then the cardio machines calorie count. Now I'm even more confused.

Is this possible? Am I doing something wrong?

Does it have a cheststrap, what HRM do you have?

Providing you input all your personal details correctly, it should be near-enough accurate.
  • It is a Timex trainzone, I believe. It does have the chest strap.

In that case, I would go with what it says. Machines are made so that the calories burned would be an average for a 180lbs male - no idea why they chose that figure, I guess they took the absolute middle-ground. However, an HRM will be for the person wearing it and will contain all their own personal info.

    Enjoy ya HRM :oD

I'm the same way! I tend to burn more calories according to my HRM than the machines say. I have noticed that as I lose weight, I get more efficient and I'm burning less each session, though. *shrugs* I guess we're just weird :)

That's the only disappointment in weightloss lol, less calories burned because we are all becoming fitness machines :oD - true though isn't it.

My HRM always showed a higher calorie burn than the MFP database, so I stopped using it and just used MFPs counts to make sure I didn't overestimate my calorie burn.
