I like Johnny Cash....but I absolutely HATED his remake of NIN's Hurt.

i don't think your ears are working properly. Cash's version is stellar.

Apparently Miley Cirus did a "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (Nirvana) remake too

Say whaaa? Haven't heard it. Don't want to!!!
From what I understand, Kurt Cobain rose from the dead to kill himself again after that...ugh!

I'm one of those people that truely believes that all songs should be covered by ska bands, so I'm probably not the one to be posting here.

    Some other awesome covers:

    A bunch of Richard Cheese:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBOpk33VlSg (Down with the sickness)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evqews-KTfI (Gin and Juice)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4hSUDCWKDc (Creep)

    Also my favorite Slackers cover:

Will To Power's mix of Freebird and Baby, I love your way. When I hear the Freebird part of that song, something inside me dies.

Oh, I must disagree.........have you ever watched the video? That song really shook me - the emotion was so raw.

I have to agree with the one who disagrees. The video was very emotional, and it really seemed like Johnny Cash could relate to the song. Very touching!

I think that cover is amazing. Trent himself said that song was not NIN's song anymore and I agree, the emotion was stronger in Johnny Cash's version.

Britney Spear's version of I Love Rock and Roll sucked pretty bad.
Miley Cyrus' Smells Like Teen Spirit made me cry.
& I won't even get into All Saints version of Under the Bridge...

I can't think of a particularly bad cover. I can only think of some awesome ones! However, I am not a huge fan of Five Finger Death Punch's Bad Company.

I created a thread for the best covers also.

I could go on forever! Sometimes cover songs are even better than the original!

Personally I enjoyed that cover.. and I am a big Joni Mitchell fan......

One of the worst for me is Graham Parker singing Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb. Make sure you grab some gauze becasue your ears will bleed on this one.

There are some songs where the original is so good, I think a cover is only going to be bad in comparison. So, I don't like the Ataris version of "Boys of Summer" (Don Henley's original is perfect) nor the 10,000 Maniacs cover of "Because the Night" (because Patti Smith's version is perfect).

hahaha...I don't even like to hear myself signing along WITH the Eagles.....and I WILL shush someone during "Desperado" (like on Seinfeld)

I just don't think remakes of great songs by great bands have much reason to exist!

I would not put anything Killdozer has done on this list.

And I must agree with the disagreement in that the Cash version was very very good.

On the subject of remakes....I wanted to slap Johnny Depp in the face repeatedly when I saw his version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

    YES
    YES
    &
    YES!!!

No One could replace Gene Wilder in that role.........I have never watched the remake - two minutes into it (on cable), I was DONE.

And what they hell are they doing remaking:

    Total Recall
    SPIDERMAN (SERIOUSLY????????? AGAIN??)

I'm not a fan of country, but the techno remake of "The Dance" that some chic sings is HORRIBLE!

Conversely, Garth Brooks cover of the Billy Joel song "Shameless" and Aerosmith's "Fever" are also equally bad

I beg to differ. I thought Shameless was great.

I loved the cover, too. I thought Cash's voice suited that song much better.

I liked both versions of Wonka, and if it wasn't for all the dentist/father backstory, Burton's version stays truer to the book.
I don't have an opinion on Total Recall.
I can't wait to see the new Spider-Man movie. I never liked Maguire in that role and I'm cautiously optimistic for this version.
