Hi Pals,
I've started to reduce my Carb intake from lunch onwards.
I NEED food ideas for this period when I'm cutting the carbs to a minimum.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Loozin

I did Atkins for a bit and was successful but it negatively effected my cholesterol and BP.
At any rate, I have the knowledge... Low carb foods are types of protein and non-starchy veggies.
Think chicken, fish, turkey, lean beef, lean pork, shrimp, eggs, cheese, whey protein
Veggies; salad greens, green pepper, red pepper, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, tomoto
Some fruits in small servings like melons and berries are not too high in carbs.
Really depends on your preference and what amount of carbs you are willing to eat.
I typically would have 3 or 4 cups of salad greens for dinner on Atkins with whatever kind of meat I wanted. Make your salads interesting my chopping up some fresh salad veggies.
Walden Farms (if you are not adverse to artificial sweetener) has 0 cal, 0 carb dressings. Or a full fat dressing like blue cheese or ranch has limited carbs as well.
Good luck!0 -
Sorry forgot to mention I don't eat Meat apart from Fish & Eggs0

I would check out Mark's Daily Apple rather than going Atkins, but you could do both without eating meat.
Add lots of veggies. I routinely stay below 100g/carbs a day consuming only carbs from veggies, and I'm not craving or overly hungry. I would also encourage upping your healthy fat intake as well - coconut oil, red palm oil, macadamia nut oil, also avocados. I eat 1 every day, and love them!0 -
hi pal...
look at this web site...it is the best i have seen...i have been on low carb for years

I'm not doing a specific plan, but i did a modified version of the south beach diet. It's not like atkins becuase it doesn't focus on low carbs, but the food options available cause your carbs to be lower. The following are good bases for low carb foods:
Eggs
Cheese
Meat
Soy
Nuts
Do some research and you will come up with many options!0 -
Try replacing bread and tortilla with lettuce (as in lettuce wraps) for sandwiches and burgers. Shred zucchini squash as a substitute for pasta noodles. Bake prosciutto, shredded parmesan cheese, or turkey pepperoni in the oven as substitutes for chips.
Many grains are usually fillers that are part of larger meals to make it appear larger than it actually is; just try to be creative in replacing the grain fillers with vegetable fillers if you can't just cut it out completely.0 -
You can cycle your carbs daily by only eating green veggies after 3. Or you can do a two high and two low. I do a low carb day on my long cardio day.0

oh i have 2 ideas for you if you need bread for sandwiches.....try Hungry Girl Foldit Flatbread whole wheat with flax....only 8 net carbs per piece....
and the new thing I found is Joseph's Flax Whole wheat Oatbran pita bread, I ate this for breakfast and it was great...and it has only 60 cals and 4 net grams of carbs....4 net carbswow...0 -
I am looking at the Mediterranean Diet snacks. Certainly that diet contains grains and cereals, but you can look at some of the lower carb options. I like the olives, cheeses, oils, yogurts, etc. Obviously most of those if not all have some carbs but not as bad as chips, crackers, etc. Just some thoughts.0
