Tip For Low Fat Grilled Cheese!

Pre weight loss, my fave lunch often included a grilled cheese sandwich. I never could get enough of them. Until recently, I never ate grilled cheese sandwiches since I started my weight loss last year. That's why I was ecstatic when I found a very basic and (should have been) obvious tip/key to a low fat grilled cheese.

The main ingredient in grilled cheese sandwiches that is high fat is the butter. The butter is good for taste, but is mainly used to keep the sandwich from sticking to the pan.

Solution? Use a non stick spray instead of butter!! This eliminates the main source of calories and fat. The other items in the sandwich like the bread and cheese you can easily lower calories with by making the bread whole grain/wheat and the cheese a reduced sodium and fat variety, I personally use the Sargento reduced sodium monterey jack, because I watch my sodium due to water weight.

Just a tip incase anyone didn't know, and likes grilled cheeses like I do :) Also, a sandwich press works wonderfully for this.

Thanks for the tip--I'll have to try the spray. I love grilled cheese and seriously could eat them for every meal.

I put mine on my George Foreman which requires nothing because it doesn't stick! I also use wheat bread and a low fat american cheese.

Try using Swiss cheese. Looking at the sodium,
    plus it's good!

Healthier option is probably to just use the butter and real cheese and wheat sprouted bread. Real food provided by nature beats lab made low fat garbage any day of the week and twice on sundays.

This. Regular Swiss cheese is my go-to cheese every day for its low sodium content. Lots of low-fat cheeses have too much sodium to fit within my macro.
