New and getting older

Hi,
My name is Kathy and I'm looking to lose about 30 pounds. I noticed as I'm getting older it's harder to take the weight off. I'm 49 (very soon) and I have to work extra hard. I often wonder the caloric counts they give you is for some one in their 20's and 30's. I have better success going under the calorie count (not starving) in the past. Anyone else seem to think so? I would like to try insanity but I don't move like I did when I was in my 20's do you think it's ok for someone my age to try it?
Looking forward to this journey.

Hi Kathy! I am 39, almost 40! I definitely think it gets harder the older we get. I have found this site to be really helpful in my weight loss journey! I have surrounded myself with supportive people and having that sense of accountability has helped. As far as insanity goes, I am too scared to try it! LOL I am actually doing a beachbody workout. I chose Chalean Extreme. It is lifting 3 days and 2 days of cardio! I am just about finished with it but it was perfect for me to start with. I can't wait to see what my final results are like. Next up for me is TurboFire. It is a little higher intensity and more cardio so I think it should be interesting. Do you have a beachbody coach? Mine was really helpful in helping me pick the right program for me! I will send you a friend request. Would be happy to support you!

I don't see why you can't do it just check with your doctor first and then go and reach for that goal0

I've been too hungry to try - haha. Just be carefull your body doesn't go into the ever scary "starvation mode" I'm not an expert by any means though0

It definitely gets harder as we get older but I think that if you are healthy enough to do insanity, then go for it! You won't know if you can do it until you try. At least trying is better than just thinking about it! Good Luck!!0

I'm in my late 50's and it is true, it does seem to be more difficult to lose weight now. I think a really big part of that is admittedly I had been more sedentary over the last few years. (Hind sight is always best) I used to walk just a couple of years ago about 5-6 miles daily. Prior to that I had a back problems. Then had trouble again with it. in the last year and a half. Although I can't walk for very long, there are other exercises I can do. I am slowly working myself into more challenging exercises, and so far so good. Don't go too gung-ho and risk an injury that could set you further back. All exercise pays dividends. I would say, start out with less strenuous exercises and build yourself up, you may be surprised at how quickly your body responds. Never tried insanity, not saying I won't in the future. We all want instantaneous results. but remember it took us a while before we got to where we were. Look at the success stories for inspiration. Many have attained fantastic results through diligence and tenaciousness...they look fantastic! Slow and steady wins the race, however always remember to challenge yourself, just not in the extreme. I have yet to lose another 40 pounds. However, my main focus and goal over just weight loss is to become healthy. Something I always took for granted. I am by no means an expert, I have just tried to start listening to my own body and do what works for me. I have already started to loose pounds and inches. Hope this helps.0
